THE DS-711 - MODEL 3 SPEECH CONTROLLED MICRO-DRILL The DS 711 - Model 3 is the most advanced micro-drill on the market today. It is used in many micro surgical procedures such as the following: ? Ear operation (mastoidectomy) ? Cochlear implant ? Spinal column ? Fingers and Toes ? Maxillary operation ? Neurosurgery ? Bone tumor removal The drill appears in two versions: 1) The fully speech controlled version: This computer controlled micro-drill is fully operated via speech. The micro-motor and the irrigation pump are controlled completely by speech commands. 2) The semi speech controlled version: In this version the speed of the micro-motor is control by a foot pedal (like car accelerator, the more you press the faster it goes) while the irrigation pump is controlled by speech commands. In both versions the microdrill is run by two computers: one of which includes a DSP (Digital Signal Processor) which manages all speech commands. The other controls all drill functions. This advanced micro drill provides the surgeon a free, independent environment which enables the surgeon to operate and control all microdrill functions by voice, without any intervention from the outside staff. The DS-711 model 3 microdrill has two main components. 1) One is the main electrical motor, which enables to drill and cut in a very smooth way any bone tissue. 2) The other one is the pump, which provides cooling fluid to the drilled area. Electrical motor speed and direction as well as pump speed are all controlled by vocal commands. The DS-711 model 3 system uses brushless DC motor technology, which enables better control of the motor at all speeds. The motor and the electrical cable can be sterilized in a 135° C autoclave, as well as all the handpieces and the irrigation pipes. The DS-711 model 3 is available with a keyboard as a backup system to speech commands.
